WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

* All animals adopted from the Animal Shelter in Calcasieu Parish MUST BE SPAYED/NEUTERED. Each year over 8,000 animals die locally and over 13 million unwanted animals die in shelters across the U. S. We require sterilization to stop the result of pet over-population and in respect for the State Law.

* NO animals adopted from the Animal Shelter may be sold, given away or abandoned. If you no longer want an animal adopted from this Shelter, it must be returned to the Shelter or the Shelter must be notified and provided the information of where the new home is located to insure a follow up on the Adoption Agreement requirements for spay/neuter surgery.

* If you have a child of six years of age or younger, please consider only animals over four months of age. A young child may not understand how to handle a baby animal safely. The child may be injured if the animal is forced to defend itself. In addition, an animal
younger than 3 months is too young to be vaccinated for rabies and in normal play the child may become scratched or bitten where it breaks the skin. Over 70% of all dog bites are of children under 6 years of age and the majority of bites occur in the face areas.

* We recommend that you do not rush in and adopt the first animal you see. Take the time to secure pet supplies and to be certain you want and are ready for an animal. Remember you are about to embark upon a 10-15 year commitment!!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN THE ANIMAL SHELTER.
