Can you guarantee your dog will never become lost? Of course not! Someone could leave the gate open, the leash or rope could break - or a number of things could take place. Your dog cannot tell people his address - but an identification tag can!
  
A License I.D. tag is a must! It's not only the law but it's the basic protection your pet needs. In addition, a tag with your own personal name, address and phone number is even more protection. Follow that with the latest technology of having your pet microchipped by your veterinarian. Tags can fall off or be taken off. Animals are scanned if they ever arrive at the Parish Animal Control. 
  
People are more apt to rescue a lost dog who has a license & personal tag, knowing that the dog has an owner who cares. A dog can be returned immediately when found, avoiding the delay which can happen over weekends, after-hours, and on holidays when the Animal Control Licensing Agency is closed. Tags offer that extra margin of safety if your pet is impounded in violation of "at-large" laws, regardless of the reason the pet got loose. Animal Control Officer's can trace tagged animals to their owners or find the pet's veterinarian in case it's been hit by a car. Tagged animals are held longer than stray animals without tags. House notes and phone calls are attempted to locate an owner. Finally a certified letter is sent in a final attempt to locate the pet's "person"! Almost 100% of tagged animals are reclaimed and returned home through the efforts of Shelter personnel. It can make the difference for your pet!
